I’m Mama Carrie, I live and work in Cornwall with my hubby Ian and our two very lively boys Eden (3) and River (1). I’ve always been creative and love making special gifts – I suppose I’m a big old softy! In May 2015, I realised that all of my gifts, handmade or not, were intended as keepsakes!
All my christening gifts to my goddaughters were jewellery to be worn when they are in their teens, which set me wondering about whether I could make them into wall art for them to display and admire until the day comes when they can finally wear them! And realised my wedding jewellery had not seen the light of day since we got married, so I wanted to display them too! And so Jewel Box Cornwall was born!
Jewel Box Cornwall has already expanded and now I not only handmake and sell my signature Jewel Boxes, but I lovingly create jewellery and other keepsake gifts too!
I would say to anyone starting out to ‘remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint’. I work hard on my business everyday as a successful business does not grow overnight, its needs patience, persistence and passion – by the bucket full!
Everything is still new, so I’m just trying to find my ‘grove’ at the moment. I’m finding that I try do the housework and spending time with my boys during the day, and once I’ve got the boys off to bed I can then crack open the laptop or head up to my loft for some ‘me’ time to get creative! I keep a note pad and pen close by at all times – you never know when a great idea springs to mind or to add to my ‘to do list’.
