Birch Lea Soaperie

I’m Leanne, mum to 3 and a half year old Reggie and baby Jasper, wife to Jamie and dog owner to Steven.

I am currently on maternity leave from my job as a vocational trainer and decided it is now or never to start my life-long ambition of setting up my own business, so back in March this year I trained in soap-making and now here I am!
My soaps and skincare are made from scratch using natural, sustainably sourced and animal friendly ingredients. I am inspired by nature, the country, fruits, herbs and spices with my style of soaps and love the handmade and rustic look, which is why I even create the labels by hand and simply tie them on with string or raffia (this way you can smell them better too!).

So far my little business operates online and through craft fairs, but my aim is to one day set up a little village shop for Birch Lea Soaperie.

Mama Tip

I have wanted my own business for a while now and held off because it’s scary giving up a guaranteed salary, but what I would say now is that work should be fun and something you can be proud of! Bite the bullet and just go for it, and if you need to cut back on the takeaways and luxuries for a while, then so be it – it’ll be worth it to be able to say “this is mine”.
