In a way, Oh Sweet Bag Of Mine has been a part of me, long before I created the business.

I have always enjoyed creating things with my hands. Growing up in Trinidad, I have fond memories from my childhood of cutting old pairs of jeans to make bags and pencil cases, learning to tie dying and batiking my own little designs with childhood friends.

I didn’t have a sewing machine, so I made many things by hand, or borrowed my aunt’s machine whenever I could. It was a dream of mine to one day buy myself a sewing machine.

When I was 21, I went to Brazil to teach English as a foreign language and I did that in Sao Paulo for 7 years.
I then moved to London, where I met my husband. After not crafting for many years, the nesting period during my second pregnancy reignited my passion for sewing, and I fulfilled my dream of purchasing my first sewing machine.
All my childhood memories came rushing back and I started toying with the idea that is now the reality of Oh Sweet Bag Of Mine.
My style has been heavily influenced by my Caribbean roots. The colorful, sunny and vibrant patterns make my heart sing. As I’ve matured over the years, I’ve been pulled towards richer, earthier colors. I’m now creating more elegant bags that make you feel totally chic and pulled together.

Of course, I always add a splash of color to the inside. I love how it can make you smile when you reach in to grab your lipstick or your keys. The vibrant, colorful fabric is a part of who I am so it only makes sense to have it inside my bags.

I feel totally blessed to be able to create for a living, to contribute to making women’s lives a little more glamorous and fun.

When I’m not sewing up a storm in my studio, I love cooking for my husband and boys and running. (I run so I can eat.) I also love reading.
